|
|
My web browsers stopped connecting (Firefox 2 and IE 7).
My firewalls aren't blocking them.
My connection says im connected, so I am connected to the internet.
When I restart computer my browsers connect to internet pages for like 5 mins, than give me the error message like unable to connect to site, make sure its typed right, make sure the firewall isnt blocking it, etc.
PLEASE HELP!! Is this a virus? Norton is not picking anything up. So I think its something else...

Check for spyware too because that also could be cutting your internet connection.

Can you connect to the internet at all though?
I'm sure its not just your browsers. Try connecting to the internet via messenger. Tell me if it works. Because sometimes my connection says I'm connected but I'm not.
If that is the case I can help you.

What I am asking is if you can connect to the internet at all. Not if your router or modem says your connect. Try connecting to AIM or MSN messenger right now. Tell me if it works.

I just did a system restore to a few days back and I am browsing fine now. I'm sure it will stop soon though..
And when it stops, it still says im connected, and msn aim and all those dont work, ive tried.
And @ savior, not sure. I got a router set up, unless I run a cable...

Oh okay. This happens to me quite often. Its not your computer so don't worry.
Usually it is because your internet provider is experiencing some issues (Comcast..) and it will usually fix itself within an hour or so. Maybe more.
Another quickfix is unplug all your modem/router cables and leave them unplugged for about 1 minute. Be sure to disable your internet after you do this.
Then Plug in all the cables again and after about another minute activate your internet. Then just wait till it connects.
This usually always works for me.
EDIT: Typo

The problem is, I posted my thread using my bros computer that was connected the same exact way as mine. While my internet wasn't working, I was surfing for solutions on my bros.

Check for incorrectly uninstalled Proxies that may have left behind any plugins causing errors
Used to give me a bit of trouble

I didnt uninstall/install proxies.
I tried typing:
Code: | netsh winsock reset catalog |
In the command prompt, but it didnt really help.

Yeah. And I just did a system restore and everything seems fine, so i'm not sure what happened. Maybe something I DLed was a virus from CEF?

Considering how many 10 yr olds there are without a brain here, definitely possible one of em put up a virus and you got it. Always scan stuff first. =P

Doubt it. Most people don't post virus's on CEF.
If they do you can tell. It would most likely be posted by someone with bad grammar and negative rep. Not to mention most likely labeled something stupid.
