How would i do this? (I have the disc but ts for my brothers laptop)

Also, would it damage/delete any folders/work/software he has on there?

Uhm, if you install Vista it should keep all the files in a folder for you..

Atleast it said it would when I went to install.

dont go over to vista yet it sucks.
most of the programs you have installed on xp will stop working after you upgrade to vista. also it seems to be very hard to get codecs atm.
i recommend you to wait a few months until a few service packs are released for it.

How to reformat your PC:
1. Insert boot CD into PC.
2. Restart your PC.
3. On the boot menu, press F8 (boot menu)
4. Choose 'Boot from CD/DVD'.
5. Keep clicking OK, Next, or Continue until you come to a screen with 3 choices.
6. Chose 'Format NTFS Files' (Don't matter which one.)
7. Come back here and thank me.

Yea, put vista cd in and click UPGRADE, not Clean Install

Ya, you should just be able to tell it to upgrade when you put the disk in.
Though I am wondering if you are going to have to reinstall your programs for Vista to have them in its registry file. I haven't upgraded Windows in a long time (mostly because the computers I've had have started out with the version that I wanted) so I think that you might need to reinstall them for them to work.

Or u can DualBoot, have Vista AND XP, cuz there are some old games, and especially hacks that crashes/uncompi. with Vista.

Check google for guides/tips/hints. I made alot of mistakes

(it took me 5 hours to get my vista preinstalled dual boot with xp but it'll take 1hour for u, cuz u have XP preinstalled. If I did everything right, I could've done this thing in 1-2hours -.-.. follow the best guides u can find!)
