Can a keylogger or any type of virus run, without the actual execution of it? and Will a system restore delete every source of the infected file or at least make it so that the virus won't execute?

What I did-

1. I download this program that "seems helpful." (Was not a rar, but it was an exe)

2. I saved it to my desktop for easy access

3. I scan it on Virustotal and find out the file is infected

4. I immediately delete the file with TuneUp Shredder

5. I try typing and I can't...

6. I did a system restore hoping that the virus is out

7. Came here too post this question

-I know I'm stupid, but I don't have an anti-virus. I will be getting one soon.

all you did was shred the data not the virus its still lirking with in your hard drive virus scan and sweep your entire computer over night with norton anti virus or some other awesome virus sweeper and in the morning use ccleaner to wipe up all unwanted files (i woild do this about 2 times with ccleaner every day if you can.) if progress percists you might have to defrag your computer becuase some keyloggers and trojans will stick to clusters of data shreds that you dispose of and no the virus does not just stay to one foulder/file/data/or text/batch files they roam around the computer eating at your data so act quick. i hope this helped you becuase i just took my time for this. Wink

Best way to remove a virus is a reformat. And depending on what virus you have the only option might be reformating So get a temporary virus scanner and see if it finds anything.

Sytem restore restores your computer back to a previous date causing any changed to be un-done. In your case, the keylogger should be gone. If you are experienced in computing, just do a little run through your system files to be safe.

When my sister bought a computer, it came with McAfee installed. It sucked so much and didn't even work! I also had a lot of trouble uninstalling it.

I recommend Kaspersky, it is fast and takes very little process. I use Kaspersky and I am vey proud of it.
