Well my bro. downloaded this thing for OdinMS :NotePad Hack: He has an account there and in that thread is said something about becoming a GM and being able to ban people, etc...

Well He downloaded it and opened it, then it restarted my computer. Every time he started the computer this MSDOS screen pops up then closes and then another thing pop's up that says it's shutting down the computer in 5 seconds, then the computer shuts down. It does this every time the computer is turned on. This is what I got from him and me testing what he said.

So I've tried everything I can think of, which isn't much because I do not know alot about computers. The only way I could get the computer started without that happening is to start it in safe-mode. So here I am.

I've already deleted the program and the .rar file that was downloaded that had the file in it. I've deleted the history and the files in the temp folder *C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Local Settings\Temp*

I was going to look at that whole thing which controls what programs are started when the computer is turned on, but I don't know how to get to it.

Is there anyone that can help me with this?

It's kind of a big thing because I have finals for internet school tomorrow

Your brother is stupid, tell him never to open any files, ever.

You can go straight to Command Prompt and type in 'shutdown -a' to abort the emergency shutdown. From there just delete what you find to be the virus.

Do I try and do this within the 5 seconds. Or in safe mode?

He won't be doing anything again.

Well you can try it within 5 seconds if you want, I'm sure its possible. (it would be more than 5 seconds, your resources need to load up first, then that shows up)
Try safe mode if you can't do it fast enough I guess.

Well I just added it to the desktop Via Putting an short-cut in the *C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Desktop* folder. So that way once I start the computer I won't have to go to Start-All Programs-Accecorites

I hope this works. Though what do I do if I can't find the Problem, Back up certain important files off of my computer and do an System Restore?

Because I'd hate to have to do that every time.

Okay so I did what you said Madman and It worked. Now how would I get rid of the program that keeps shutting down my computer?

Also do you know how to change what programs are started when the computer is turned on?

Just system restore if it keeps shutting down before you can do anything, other than that locate the files.

As for startup programs, just add or remove whatever you don't want.

The file that did it would be the NotePad hacks shit. It was a .bat file set to shut down your computer 5 seconds after startup. Just delete it and you'll be fine now.
Edit:

Well i did it this way: C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

There was one file in it so I opened it, then that whole stupid thing in my first post popped up and shut down my computer. So I turned it back on did the whole 'shutdown -a' in command promt. so that my computer wouldn't shut down. Wend back to C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and deleted that file.

Thank you everyone that helped.

@SaviourFamily: Well I did delete the file that i downloaded. Though I think when my brother opened it, the program sent a copy of itself do the startupr folder. Though everything is fixed.
