No, the Penryn processors have not yet been released. Except for some Extreme versions. Yorkfield chips have been delayed till Q2 2008, Wolfdale chips are expected to be released on time.

Ew
Get a core 2 quad q 9450 or whatever the quad 2.8 or 2.66 is
About ur card, i would re-arrange the case fans to force mroe air into the case rather then out so that the gpu fan dosen't have to work as hard
n tune much? |
Because I'm sure he has $500 to just toss his current setup and buy a new board and CPU for maybe 5% better gaming performance
Also, positive case pressure as you suggested would cause dust buildup and create more heat issues in the future, bad idea.
Check your temps, if they're in check, it's likely a bad PSU.

I thought positive pressure was better for reducing dust?
I've never tried dust filters, but idk they're cheap and might help.
If for some reason i had a socket AM2, and only had about $300 to upgrade my comp for the next year, i would probably buy a phenom also.
Anyway, since the 8800 GTX eats up like 300 watts, a bad or dying PSU could be a possibility.

Clean out the dust of the fans in the casing. Try getting more fans and arrange the cards to get more air circulation

Assuming that you lowered your frequencies, upped the fan to 100% and got a more powerful PSU, maybe your card is defective. To verify, stick it into another computer, if the same happens, maybe it is

Is this a new card? If so, you may have got a lemon. I ordered a card a few weeks back that did the exact same thing and turned out to be defective.

Do you actually lose signal to your monitor?
I had that problem, one would logically think it was the video cards, but it ended up being the power supply brutally murdering them. It was a Antec too, so it's not like it was a massive piece of shit.

At first it sounded like a PSU issue which is probably solved with your new PSU but now your screen goes black and sounds keeps playing it sounds like an overclocking issue (or defect).
Does the sound loop? or does everything else keep running normal...
If it loops your PC probably hung himself because of overclocking or a defect.
If sound does not loop and your gfx just go bye bye it's probably a defective gfx card... Even though a defective gfx card van also hang your PC.
Hehe just try your card in another PC

all X, aka Extreme cores can modify their multiplier (up).
Which QX6700 can.

Download "SpeedFan" and if your running any where near 50-60C you should prob get a new fan or dust the inside of your computer.. Here is the link.
On the side note my old computer was running around 84C for the main fan =D. I hope i set a record.
