I've just started using cheatengine and I decided to try it out and Drug Wars - Underworld as it seemed to be a pretty game. Using the exact search option I was lucky enough to find my # of drugs. I've tried buying/selling and then researching but each time I'm left with 3 results that are the same.
My question is do I have to edit all 3?
Thanks in advance.

Yes edit all 3, one address might be there for visual purposes. BTW if its an online game it'll only affect the client.

| Prior to your replies I edited all 3 values and it worked fine. I'd still like to know why there's 3 values though. 1 visual value, 1 stored value, what would that leave the last as?

I don't know what the last value is, but I think the second value is not a stored value, but I think its quite similar towards being one. I suggest editing them one by one to see which is the correct address.

Some games may store value in more than one place, for many reasons. The most common, as Thlump said, is one value is used for "visual", when it's displayed on your screen. But internally, a game may keep several variables with the same value for various reasons ranging from record-keeping to even testing if someone tried to use a cheat/trainer but didn't change both values ("if (hit_points != hit_points_backup) { die("You cheater!"); }" or something similar.) Other reasons might be a scratch-pad area, where calculations are done (including on your enemies, so be careful not to give your enemies infinite hp, too!), current and max values (14 out of 14 hit points), etc.
Generally, add all three values to your list and play the game awhile. Watch to see if they change in strange ways, or are always the same as each other, etc. Try changing one but not the others and see what the game does. Sometimes you'll need to change two or more locations, making sure they always have the same value as the other ones.

I want to add something towards that. I don't think the value will change strangely if the address type is 4 bytes. However, the value will change very strangely if the type is Double. For example the EXP address is in double and the address value is something like -5.0485093485037 when your value in 4 Bytes can be something like 434. BTW if you change a number to -1 while the type is 4 bytes the value will change to something close to 4294967295.
