Get one of those mass codec packs perhaps? (K-Lite Codec Pack etc.)

If you want to know specifically what codec is required, use gSpot.

i already tried all that stuff, yes the zune does play mp4s.. i put a bunch of movies b4 i reformatted my computer, with no problems. but when you reformat it deletes everything off ur comp a(codecs) and those codec packs don't work with the zune. and that article is old, zune supports alot more formats now. and for the software, i got the newest.
