E2180 @ 3.2ghrz. Suppose to go up to 3.6 :[
My XFX 680i LT was a bad choice for overclocking.
Should've gotten a GB D3SL =/

I'm getting a Penryn too, the Q9450 to be exact, with a X38 MB <3 |
I think I'm gonna go for the lowest Penryn quad and overclock the piss out of it. However, I've never used SLi before and I'm considering it for my next build, which chipsets support it? |
I know that the P35 and X38 chipsets will support the new 45nm processors (might need a BIOS update) Those are Intel chipsets, and since NVIDIA didn't give Intel SLI permit, you can't run in SLI with those chipsets. The NVIDIA's nForce 680i chipset doesn't support the new Intel processors. Here's the good news, the upcoming nForce 780i will support 45nm Intel processors, and will support triple SLI.
Core 2 Quad Q9300 4 2,50 GHz 6 MB 1333 MHz 7,5x 95 W Jan. 2008 $ 266
Core 2 Quad Q9450 4 2,67 GHz 12 MB 1333 MHz 8x 95 W Jan. 2008 $ 316
Those are the two "cheapest" processors that will come out. Q9450 is mine, because I don't like that the Q9300 only have a cache of 6MB and a 7.5 multiplier.
Hopefully by the time those processors are released, the price for those X38 motherboards will drop *looks at the P5E3 Deluxe*
EDIT: Forgot to tell that even though you can't run in SLI with the P35 and X38 chipsets, you can run in CrossFire. |
What the hell do you need a processor like that for.. Unless your going to be running 4 or 5 games at once or making a game i think it's just a waste.. Q6600 should be enough for most gamers..

Are you complaining about the price? As far as I can see, the Q9450 will cost about the same as the Q6600 (your processor), even cheaper. If you think that paying ~300$ for your processor is a lot, you haven't seen anything, the QX9775 will cost 1,500$!
