How do I cheat?

I have just completed the tutorials on cheat engine, and i have also hacked 2 flash games, but the problem is, when i hacked them i multiplied the values by 8. (i followed a tut or You tube).
anyway can anybody tell me why i had to multiply them by 8 and do you have to multiply it by any other number in different games?

im not sure why you multiply by 8..... tho in some games you gotta double the vale and some u use an exact value... i do belive it very from game to game if thats any help if not sorry for wasteing your time XD

I take it you tried to hack a game in flash 8 or 9?
anyhow, for the reason you multiply by 8:
Not sure, but I think flash uses a non-standard floating point notation, where the last 3 bits are used for the fraction calculation, and the other bits representing the decimal
