|
|
So yeah here is the problem:
Used CE on a EXE file inside a USB drive and somehow made the whole USB read only and now i can't even format it. I can access the files fine, but can't delete them.
Tried formatting through GParted, but didn't work.
Problem popped up after i used CE on the drive so... any ideas Dark Byte or anyone else?

unless you changed to exe to start writing non-stop to the usb i don't see how ce could do that.
what you describe is behaviour of an usb/ssd that has reached it's max write limit. after that they go read only

Kinda impossible for the max write limit to be reached, since it's a pretty new USB stick, though not improbable. Any other tip on how to check if it's really the max write limit?
Does the EXE need to be working for it to write non-stop? Since its mostly not being used.

if you are familiar with 'diskpart' console command, then give it a try since you can almost do everything with it.
there is an alternative too, disk manager from admin tools.
you can use third-party software too, there is many tools out there i used many tools to do some modifications to my stick (previous one) so yeah find a term (name) to your problem and google it im pretty sure you will find something.

Did diskpart - nothing, tired from Disk Managment - nothing, tried third-party tools - nothing. Probably what Dark Byte said - max writes, but how - i have no idea and makes no sense, a barley new USB, not much used.
Gonna try go for warranty (if i can find my proof of purchase check) or buy a new one from a different brand. 64GB to the wind - sad.
Lock or close the thread please.

please confirm its read-only or not:
run 'diskpart'
enter 'list disk'
then 'select disk x' ( replace x with your usb number )
after that 'attrib disk'
and see if its read-only, there will be:
Yes if read-only and No if its not, as well as other infos.
just a quick edit and update:
see if changing drive letter can help as well as using different ports.
