Noobish question about counter

Yes it's possible find out what writes to that address then you'll find probably a dec opcode...
before the dec opcode there maybe an instruction that mov the current counter value into a register to decrement it, so you should change it... instead of the counter value you can put a 1...
But this will give you kinda infinite prizes because there will be no delay, if you still need the delay of 1 second you can try with code injection aniway.

I'm just guessing since I don't know the code

But keep in mind that this tutorial deals with the time counted in milliseconds (which is the time counted by the cpu, thanks to its clock).
Instead relative to what you said, thr counter you are trying to modify for what I've understood, decreases by 1 each second ( so every 1000 milliseconds), so instead of modifying the "time" instruction that is calculated from the cpu, you'll modify the instruction that reads the time and decreases the counter...



P.s.: this is the easiest type of case you may have... I hope it's nothing too complex
