Cheat Engine

I'm having issues with a couple of the Final Fantasy games through steam not saving. I go back and make extra sure that I am saving the game, and it does not seem to be a problem when my computer falls asleep, however if the computer shuts down and then I try to access the saved game it does not allow me to continue.

The problem specifically has been with FFIII and FFVII so far, and after putting decent time into the games, starting over is not the funnest idea since I simply use the engine to cut down on the grindy parts.
