|
|
Just wondering what Lua reference manual (version) I should be referencing while learning Lua in CE. (I've never written any Lua code until recently and only in CE).
Every now and then I happen on something that doesn't work/work quite as expected, most recently in reference manual 5.3 and 5.2.
Oh, I'm using CE 6.4 (latest version from website).
side question: What is the appeal of Lua. I see that it's somewhat popular but haven't happened on the why (besides it being a high level language).

Cheat Engine makes use of Lua 5.1.

Well, as far as CE is concerned, LUA is embedded scripting language (can be embedded into applications) and that alone is very useful because it can extend the features of CE (just look in the lua section for examples). It is also very easy to learn compared to others so there's also that. Writing some types of gamehacking scripts is easier with lua than with pure asm code injections and the trainer generation is powerful with lua too.
I am not a fan of it either (no special reason) but its without any doubt that CE wouldn't as powerful as it is now without LUA implementation. It is a programming language after all
