Make sure your device is awake when you pop up the network window(some disable the broadcast reception when the screen goes black)
It may also be that you need an router/network setup that can transmit network broadcast messages. (Some routers block them)
Or find out the local ip of your phone and fill it in manually (check the wifi settings)

The device is always awake, and I also tried to manually input the ip address - but still no result.
Can't find anything related to network broadcast message in my router setup. Any clues or help?

Can you verify that you can connect to the server with telnet to make sure it isn't a network problem that we probably can't help you with? For example if your phone is 192.168.0.30, type this in the command line:
Code: | telnet 192.168.0.30 52736 |
Your screen should clear if you are connected otherwise you should get a connect failed message.

Code: |
C:\Windows\system32>telnet 192.168.0.151 52736
Connecting To 192.168.0.151...Could not open connection to the host, on port 527
36: Connect failed |
so telnet doesn't work. BUT i took my devices (laptop+phone) and connected them to another wifi. same result: no servers discovered and no telnet.
which makes me think i have to make some settings inside windows to make this work. and i really need some help. i'm using licensed windows 8.1

It could be a firewall thing.
Or selinux is interfering.(although i'd assume that binding the socket would have failed then)
Can you ping your phone?

It's a network configuration problem, there is no route to 192.168.0.151 from your computer
What is the local ip of your windows system
I don't have much experience with networking, but perhaps it's just a netmask issue.
Both the laptop and the phone are on the same wifi network? (Don't use a cable for the laptop either)

my laptop network ip: 192.168.0.138
both laptop and phone are on the same wifi, and none of them is connected via any cable. they are wireless.
if this helps anyhow:
the phone is on android 4.1.2

i had problems automatically detecting the cesever too before. just make sure you restart the phone, make sure your screen is on when you're doing it, and if it still doesn't show up, try inputting the local ip address manually and it is almost guaranteed to work

he can't even ping his phone from his computer.
When he pings it 192.168.0.138 replies instead that there is no route to it.
So there is something wrong with his network setup or system(route table on his system?). Perhaps even local access is being routed through a server while it shouldn't have to

I was with the same problem, so i tryed to connect manually and it works.
You need to use the ip of your phone.
To get the ip you have to go in wifi settings. Connect to one wifi(whatever) and after it connect u tap on the name of your wifi. It will show the ip and others settings. Just write the IP in that box with the same port(52736).
The automatilly search is not working here still, but i can see the pointers now eiwoiewoiew.
Sorry my bad and confuse english. I'm brazilian.
I hope it works now. try, GL
