|
|
Heya, don't know if this is the right place, or if my problem has been posted elsewhere. Did a quick search and couldn't find anything.
The problem is that i'm trying to slow down a game (Painkiller) with this speedhack. The thing is though as i have Fraps running too, is that when i increase the "speed", my fps floors it and stays on 300fps BUT the game runs as usual. No speed manipulation whatsoever. And when i decrease the "speed" the fps drops to 10-20, but the game runs as usual, again.
How does this speedhack work anyways? Does it rely on VSync?
Well, it doesn't work as intended for me, i guess.
Any suggesstions on how i can slow down the game with this speedhack option?
Edit: Tried the speedhack thingy on a facebook game. Took the speed down to 0,1 .. What happened was that the game lagged, nothing more. The game runned in the same speed, but was lagging instead.
BR

I just tried it myself on painkiller resurrection and the speedhack works as expected. 0.5 makes the game feel as if playing on the moon, and 2.0 is fast speed
The video settings are set to high. But I do have a super machine (core2cduo 3GHz, nvidia 295GTX, 12GB ram)
Perhaps your computer just can't handle the speed and it's already running at half speed of normal ?
Also, when the speedhack is working the fps notation will be wrong, as the code that calculates the current fps is messed with as well
It could be it's vsync yes, but could also be something else (e.g fraps)

Well, my computer handles Painkiller on maximum settings with a flow of 60 fps, with or without fraps recordings.
2 gfx cards, Radeon HD 5770 SLI, 4 GB RAM, AMD Phenom II X4 945 3GHz.
So it shouldn't be my rig.
But the thing is that if i start painkiller, the game runs in 2x speed, without Cheat Engine, as i have dual core processor. The game can only handle single core, so it's going twice as fast. If i disable one core it runs smoothly.
Might it be that? Can't imagine it be that as the facebook game has the same problem.
Edit: Have CE 5.5 installed btw. Should i download another speedhack.dll?
Edit 2: Tried with 0 graphics on Painkiller, with the same result as with maxed. No speed manipulation whatsoever. Tried Ols Speedhack also, but with the same resluts.

I have no idea, perhaps your anti virus is blocking it ?
anyhow, try downloading this speedhack test and use ce's speedhack on that one. See if it has any effect
http://cheatengine.org/temp/speedhacktest.exe
and yes, it could be that you're running an old version of the painkiller engine that doesn't handle multicore cpus well. (e.g if they use the cpu hardware to get the current time instead of asking windows what the time is)
Perhaps a patch can solve that ?

My antivirus hasn't nagged me about CE, so it should be fine.
Though when i rebooted my PC and downloaded the test.exe, the speedhack works fine it seems.
It might have something to do with the multicore thing as spoken of.
Going to try the speedhack on the same game you tried on.
I also have Battle out of Hell installed that patched the original game to 1.5, but the problem is still there. Can't recall of hearing about an multicore patch for Painkiller.
Edit: Sorry for adding you to msn btw. You can ignore it if you like ^^.

Huh?
Edit: Confirmed that the speedhack works on Painkiller: Resurrection.
Must be that the first Painkiller doesn't support dual core as resurrection does.
Though i think it should work eitherway.

yes, could be that's the problem.
the problem with dualcore support on older games is that they directly query the hardware , and because both cpu's don't have exactly the same value for their high speed counter, (amd's mostly) you get messed up speeds (although a constant double speed is weird)
Problem is that the speedhack can't hook the hardware (not without dbvm, and I haven't added support for the hardware timer in dbvm yet anyhow) but only the windows api layer.
But weird that there's no patch that fixes that problem with multicores (which automatically opens up to speedhack to work properly)

That i didn't know Dark Byte, thanks for clearing that up .
Well, it's not constant double speed really. When there's alot of graphics the game almost slows down to normal pase, and when there's less graphics needed it speeds the hell up ^^.
Oh, but can we see dbvm hardware timer support in the future?
I've installed the latest patch for Painkiller (1.64), and it seems that the 2x speed as been fixed. Though the speedhack ain't working eitherway. But it's as you said, Painkiller might map the graphics, or something to hardware and not to api layer.
Though i found a way to slow Painkiller down in a way with 1.5 patch.
When i have the painkiller.exe process with 2 cores, and disables one of them in the main menu, sometimes the game cuts the normal speed in half, giving me slow motion anyways ^^. Can't do it now though as i've patched. But it's a heads up for the rest of you .
