Cheat Engine

Hi, I am having trouble getting some values, in particular the list of the units info.

I have used Cheat engine to work out the structure of units, and have located their positions in the world, their hp, and their tile numbers that they are standing in. and I have all of these offsets. easy.

I am using this information to then use c++ to make a bot. At the moment the c++ app just draws a window with the world and units represented by squares, but eventually It will play the game as well.

What I'm having problems with is finding the pointer to the list of all units in the game. I'm fairly new to Cheat Engine, but have plugged in hours trying to get this to work, and have probably seen every youtube video and read every post on this website on the subject.

My best effort so far has gotten me about 95% of the units, but every now and again, one unit will go "invisible", replaced by giberish, and this tells me I'm not actually reading the list of units right now, but rather they just happen to mostly fall in this area in memory.

I guessed it was a list of pointers, but when I get like 4 units hp, and find the address affecting their hp, I cannot find any similar hex scans. I figured they would be like 4 apart or so, or at least have a pattern, but I cannot find any patterns, which tells me I'm looking in all the wrong places.

Any help/experience is appreciated. I am also wanting to inject input to the game to make the bot play. How would I do this with Cheat engine?
