There's really no difference in that case since you'd still have to check the checkbox every time you wanted to write to the values. If anything, the hotkeys would be easier since you don't even have to leave the game to press a key.

You could manually make a hotkey via createHotkey(function,keys...) that can use the timer to automatically write to those values. When the hotkey is pressed, just toggle the Enabled property of the timer. See main.lua for more information on working with hotkeys (see the GenericHotkey class), and defines.lua for information on what keys you can use and what they're called. Both files should be in the main CE directory and can be viewed with any standard text editor.
